Blog delayed by Botswana

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Why no blog? I've been away 'working' in Botswana. I had been before, so I knew what a beautiful country it was, but I hadn’t ridden in the Okavango Delta before. I was in for some surprises! Around each corner lay another scene from a glossy coffee-table picture book. Lily pads created fantastic patterns on the clear blue waters, fluffy white clouds reflected along with the blue skies from above. And so many different rich shades of green. A tranquil, gentle scene until our small group of riders splashed through the crystal waters, enjoying the exhilaration of the horses pushing onwards with tireless effort. How can I describe the feeling of cantering with zebra and giraffe running alongside you? The horses were beautiful to ride, so responsive, but their instinct was to pay attention to the smell of other game around, not only obeying their riders, in case they were in danger themselves. Sitting with a huge elephant no more than 20 metres away or a pride of lion in the long grass ahead were very special moments. If you want to check out the experience for yourself see my pictures or check out Botswana on my website.
