July/August - what a busy time!

Sunday, August 24, 2008

I sympathise with all you Mums and Dads who are running around even more than normal in the school holidays. I have just returned from three days on the Safari Consultants stand at the Bird Fair. This is always an enjoyable and friendly event, with the added bonus of fairly dry conditions compared with last year. I enjoyed hearing Simon King, Jonathan Scott and others give their tips for taking better photographs and even rubbed shoulders with David Attenborough.

A walk in the wetlands with Chris Worden opened my eyes to bird behaviour and I am inspired to do more birding in the UK. Particular thanks to Graham and Carole who forwarded me an amazing photograph: I have spent many an hour in the hides at Minsmere, and have been rewarded with good views of flying bitterns but I need to do more time to get a shot like this!

Thanks to those of you who talked with me about creating your very own tailor-made safaris and look forward to further discussions with you in the coming weeks.
